SUPERPAVE Shear Tester

Interlaken¹s SUPERPAVE Shear Tester is a system for generating performance data to support the SUPERPAVE Level II and Level III mix designs.

The PaveTek SST exhibits superior performance in the areas of mechanical stiffness and precision. The Interlaken system was chosen for use in all U.S. Federal Highway Administration Centers.

Through its innovative design, the Interlaken equipment has surpassed all specification requirements set by the FHWA.

Test Development

The UniTest Control System (Windows-based control and data acquisition system) with the SUPERPAVE Shear Tester (SST) and the UniTest Software system can be used to develop and execute standard and custom tests.

Test Definition

The software interface provides several levels of operator interaction. The operator is guided through the standard SHRP test procedures. Also, the iconic interface can be used to set up test procedures. Where more flexibility is required, a development system is available.

Test Execution

The SST applies multiaxial loads to asphalt specimens in a controlled thermal and pressure environment. Vertical and horizontal actuators generate normal and shear stresses. Radial stresses are generated through the application of confining pressure. Forces and deformations are controlled through closed loop servo systems under computer control.
