Strength Tester

The Interlaken Shear Strength Tester has been developed to measure time dependent and repeated load characteristics of asphalt mixes. It tests cylindrical asphalt mix specimens from gyratory compaction and core drilling.

The test system design is based on experience from manufacturing research grade shear test systems. The standard system tests asphalt mix at room temperature and above. An option for cold temperature is available. The system is designed to assure uniform stress and strain distributions.

Application Software

The Simple Shear, Frequency Sweep and Repeated Shear tests are based on the same procedures and techniques used on Interlaken’s research shear systems. Each test starts with a screen for entering specimen information and an identifier. Then the test parameters are entered. Test setup is completed by selecting a data file name. Then the operator is prompted to begin the test.

After the operator clicks on the start button to initiate the test it executes automatically.

The data stored from the Simple Shear Test consists of the time histories for stress and strain. Frequency Sweep data consists of the modulus at each frequency step. For the repeated shear tests the maximum and permanent deformation is recorded at intervals based on cycle count.
